22nd March 2017
Wow! It is almost 9 months now since I updated my blog and so much has happened. First of all I delivered a healthy baby girl called Lola Rae on the 26th June 2016. I returned to work in October and shortly after my return, our fabulous Care Manager Jacinta, decided to hang up her boots and hand her notice in. To say we were all devastated is an understatement. Jacinta left at the end of January 2017 and I have taken over the reigns. I have some big shoes to fill but I think we seem to be doing really well so far and I am so proud of the fabulous team that we have.
Lindsey has been promoted to Deputy Manager and Chelsie and Danielle have been promoted to Senior Assistants. Dawn continues in her role as Deputy so I am very confident in our leadership team.
We recently achieved 5 stars at our Food Hygiene Inspection for the 5th year running and are waiting for our unannounced CQC Inspection. We have had our grounds completely redone and its looking fabulous. We are going to be hatching our own chicks at Easter and then keeping them which we are all very excited about. More to follow on that when they arrive.
So it’s been a very busy 9 months and I certainly have my hands full but the most important thing is the continued excellent care we provide to our residents and ensuring they are happy, secure and loved.
Will write soon I promise!
I have just been updating the website and realised I haven’t written anything on here for ages. To be honest, our facebook page seems to have replaced this blog. It is much easier and quicker to post information on our facebook page so please do have a read of it to find out what has been going on at Alexandra Court over the past few months.
I will be going on Maternity Leave in June 2016, so this will be my final blog for a while. I feel a bit torn really about not being here everyday with our residents. As much as I am looking forward to my first baby, I feel like Alexandra Court is my baby too and I will miss it so much when I am off. I will only be off for 12 weeks though and popping in as often as I can. I will also have access to my emails at all times should anyone need me.
In the meantime, I leave Alexandra Court in the extremely capable hands of Jacinta, Dawn and all our fabulous staff. I am so proud of all of them for achieving such a fantastic CQC report this year and for ensuring we kept our ‘enhanced’ status from Leeds City Council, not to mention our 5 star Food Hygiene rating.
There seems to be so many horrible press reports lately about poor standards of care in care homes and it can be so demoralising for those of us who do provide excellent standards of care. We strive every day to make sure that our residents feel safe, loved, cared for, happy and content in their lives at Alexandra Court and our inspection report proves this.
Anyway, while I am away, please keep an eye on our facebook page for updates on Alexandra Court and I shall update my blog when I return.
Lots of love,
I can’t believe we are into November now – time is flying by.
We had a wonderful evening last night at our Fireworks Party. Everyone seemed to enjoy it – particularly the Prosecco and Baileys!
This month we were visited for the first time by Keystone KOPS who are an entertainment duo. The feedback from the residents was fantastic. They all really enjoyed it and we have booked them to come again in December. Here is a little video of one of our lovely residents singing with Keystone KOPS:
We are all really looking forward to seeing White Christmas at the West Yorkshire Playhouse next month. Residents are going to see it as a Christmas present from us, in small groups throughout December. I can’t wait for Christmas – we usually put the decorations up on the 1st December and get everyone involved and have mulled wine and mince pies.

It is the 3rd October 2014 today and Alexandra Court’s first official blog!
I will be doing a monthly blog letting people know what’s been going on at Alexandra Court. My name is Marilouise and I am one of the Directors along with my two brothers and father.
So this month has seen the launch of our new website which I am thrilled with. It is much more interactive than the previous one and has a lot more information on it about who we are and what we provide. We have had some lovely feedback on it so far.
We had three new lovely residents arrive in September so we are now fully occupied again. It is always exciting when new residents arrive. We love getting their bedrooms ready and organising brand new bedding and one resident even chose a brand new carpet for her room. It is important to us that residents can choose how they want their bedroom to be decorated and it helps the resident settle in better. We love it even more when a new resident brings things from home in because it makes the bedroom so much more personal and homely.
We had our annual Health and Safety Inspection which went really well. There were a few minor points that we have to implement such as providing a risk assessment for the Deep Fat Fryer and ensuring that even the tiny windows in the building have restrictors on them to prevent injury.
We had our quarterly residents meeting which was well attended. We discussed future activities such as our annual fireworks display and Christmas. This year residents have decided they would like to go to the theatre in small groups instead of going out for a meal like we did last year. They decided on White Christmas which is being performed at the West Yorkshire Playhouse throughout December and I have actually just received the tickets through the post today for everyone. I think the staff are more excited than the residents about going!
Lastly we had a 95th birthday yesterday. Mrs N had a lovely day. Her family came and joined her for lunch in her bedroom and then at tea time we brought her out a birthday cake and all the residents and staff sung Happy Birthday to her.
Lots of love until next month – Marilouise x
