Mary and Wray Nelson opened Alexandra Court many years ago and it was called after their daughter’s middle name.

Mary was a former nurse and social worker for the elderly and was disappointed in the calibre of the care homes she visited on behalf of her clients. It was a dream of hers to open a residential care home for the elderly where standards were high and resident’s welfare and well being were the top priority. She wanted Alexandra Court to be a home that welcomed elderly people from all classes and backgrounds.

With a lot of financial and manual help from Mary’s family and with Wray by her side to deal with the hard task of converting a normal house into a residential home, Alexandra Court was finally opened in 1992 after much heartache and almost financial ruin.

Sadly in 1998, Mary died of cancer at the age of 50 leaving Wray to continue to live out her dream and ensure Mary’s high standards were upheld. With the help of Mary’s sister Margaret who took over the financial side of the business, the employment of our superb care manager Jacinta and with the constant input from Wray, Alexandra Court has gone from strength to strength.

Margaret retired in 2008 followed by Wray in 2011 and Jacinta in 2017 meaning they have handed over the reins to Mary’s daughter Marilouise, who will ensure that Mary’s spirit, high standards and values continue to live on in Alexandra Court. Marilouise has achieved a degree in Business Management, Level 2 and 3 in Health and Social Care and her Level 5 in Leadership and Development.

Marilouise continues to be supported by Wray along with her brothers, Dominic and Andrew, who are all directors of Alexandra Court.

Meet The Team

Marilou Bree: Care Manager
Marilou is Alexandra Court’s Care Manager and Director. After completing a BSc in Business Management, she came to work full time in Alexandra Court in 2007, where she then completed her NVQ 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management. Outside of Alexandra Court, she is a Mum to Lola, 6 and Cora 3. She loves to read and spend time with friends and family.

Laura: Chef

Laura is our wonderful and creative Chef who has over 11 years experience in the Catering Industry. Laura loves to hike, travel and read.

Chris: Head Housekeeper

Our amazing Chris has 13 years of experience in Housekeeping and ensures high standards of cleanliness are maintained throughout Alexandra Court. In his spare time he has completed 3 marathons, 1 ultra marathon and even trekked to Everest Base camp.

Kirsty: Administrator
Lovely Kirsty is our Administrator but is actually in charge of many area’s of Alexandra Court including Maintenance, Ordering, Staff Training, Recruitment and all things financial. In her spare time, she loves spending time with her lovely partner Rob and her gorgeous 2 daughters, Olivia 6 and Millie 9 months.

Sahara: Activities Coordinator
Sahara is our fabulous Activities Coordinator and Content Creator for our social media channels. Her imagination has no bounds when it comes to Activities. In her spare time she loves to Travel and spend time with her family.
